Ferris Wheel Has Become A Landmark Of Cities In China

- Dec 06, 2017 -

China set off a wave of "Ferris Wheel hot". New ferris wheel has been completed in Shanghai, Harbin, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Taizhou, Wuwei, Nanchang, Tianjin, Suqian, Wuxi, Suzhou and liaocheng. In the past 14 years, at least one Ferris Wheel has been built every year.

It seems that both first-tier and fourth-tier cities have joined the wave. The question is why are Chinese cities so keen to build giant Ferris Wheel?

Low cost is an important reason. As landmarks, skyscrapers (more than 150 meters tall buildings) is usually several billions US dollar, the cost of a general ferris wheel is jus several million US dollar. Such as the investment of Nanchang Star is about 15 millon US dollar.

Another reason is that the construction time is short and the recycling of cost is fast. It usually takes only one years to build a ferris wheel, and the cycle of recouping costs is not long. Skyscrapers require more professional and sophisticated post-operation, and the Ferris Wheel relies more on the ticket revenue generated by the flow of people. With Capital Wheel at the national port of Washington, the total investment is $15 million, there are 25,000 visitors in the first week of the opening ceremony,  and $15 for a  ticket -- the developer plans to recoup the cost in two years.

The enthusiasm appears to be "productive" - China now occupies six in the world's top 10 Ferris Wheels.
